How to Do Scheduling in Primavera P6

Proper scheduling in Primavera P6 ensures efficient resource allocation and timely project completion. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to enable and use auto-scheduling in Primavera P6 scheduling software:

1.      Start with a Simple Project Plan: Make sure your project plan is created and open in Primavera P6.

2.      Check Activity Scheduling: Identify any activities that are scheduled to start before their predecessors. For example, "Define resource list from kickoff meeting report" should start after "Project kickoff meeting."

3.      Define Dependencies: Define dependencies between activities. You can read articles or guides on adding dependencies in Primavera P6 if needed.

4.      Access the Schedule Dialog Box: On the P6 ribbon, go to Tools > Schedule.

5.      Open Schedule Options: In the Schedule dialog box that appears, select Options....

6.      Enable Auto-Scheduling: On the General tab, check the box for Schedule automatically when a change affects dates.

7.      Commit Changes: Click Close to save the changes to Schedule Options. Back in the Schedule dialog box, click the green Schedule button.

8.      Review Adjustments: Check your list of activities. The start date for "Define resource list from kickoff meeting report" should now be adjusted to fall after "Project kickoff meeting."

9.      Add New Activities and Dependencies: As you add new activities and dependencies to your project, dates will automatically shift to reflect an accurate project plan.

10.  Monitor and Update: Regularly monitor your project plan and make updates as necessary to ensure accurate scheduling.

By following these steps, project managers can effectively schedule and control projects using Primavera P6.
